On the last day of our week long Summer sailing holiday we sailed from Fowey back to Saltash. Well… I say sailed we mainly motored as there was hardly any wind. Had it of just been Phil and I on board we probably would of perceived with the sails up but we were aware that is was going to be a fairly long passage even under motor and it wouldn’t of been fair on the kiddies to make it take even longer.
We left Fowey at about 10am.
As you can see form the photo it was an amazing day, the best we’d had the whole week, which was typical as it was our last day!
We motored out of the harbour entrance and set our sails. We sailed for about an hour in a light breeze and then became completely becalmed. The light south westerly breeze forecast turned out to be a light easterly head wind which then became no wind. This trip turned out to be a beat all the way down to Fowey and then a beat all the way home.
The kids were really well behaved and spent the journey either playing on the DS’s, colouring at the saloon table or sat in the cockpit watching where we were going.
The whole journey took us around 6 hours.
I personally really enjoyed the trip as I’m not a huge fan of waves, Phil on the other hand got bored and kept muttering under his breath something about lack of wind and not what the forecast had predicted!
