This week was the first of the Summer Holidays. We planned to spend the whole week on the boat but unfortunately, the weather didn’t allow it.
On Monday the wind was pretty strong which isn’t very comfortable for the kiddies and dog on the boat. She rolls a lot which isn’t fun. We decided to drive to Polperro instead.
Polperro is a fishing village on the south-east Cornwall coast. I’d never been before but wanted to go for ages after reading the book *The Sea Shell Girl by Linda Finlay. The book is based in Polperro although the name has been changed. It’s a great book, I’d definitely recommend it.
Polperro was a lot bigger than I expected. I had a vision of a tiny fishing village with a few shops and perhaps a pub. It actually has lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and B&B’s.
You have to park at the top of the village and either walk down to the centre or get on the tram which leaves from the car park. The parking is quite expensive.
Make sure you pop into the shop that is located in the car park. They have loads of great bargains including kids ice creams for only £1.50!
The harbour is only small but very picturesque. There is a small beach with some great caves for little explorers. It’s a mixture of sand and shingle. Beach shoes would be good for kiddies.
You can walk up the hill to the South West coast path and take in the stunning views.
They have regular boat trips from the harbour and a few of the boats have glass bottoms. I now wish we had gone on one, maybe next time.
We had a lovely time in Polperro I just wished we had stayed a bit longer to explore some more. I’ll definitely be going back soon.
