Last weekend we had our first weekend away on Morveren, our new boat. We decided to head up towards Calstock in Cornwall. We haven’t been able to go up there for the last two years as Oblivion, our previous boat had a deep draft and it can get very shallow up the river. Even after living in Devon for nearly 6 years now we still haven’t seen half of what this beautiful county has to offer. Our excuse is that it’s a huge area and one of the largest counties in England.
Since we have been living down here we’ve discovered lots of hidden gems so we thought we’d share 10 of the best with you. A lot of these places are tucked away and can be very hard to get too, so only really for people that are up for a challenge! Continue reading “10 Hidden Gems to Visit in Devon”
I think every sailor has their favourite anchorages, one on our list is definitely Fowey in Cornwall. We generally sail from the River Yealm to Fowey in one go and on average it takes us about 4 hours, although we did sail straight from Fowey to our home port once which took around 9 hours! That was far too long for the kiddies and puppy and will not be repeated! Continue reading “10 Things to Do in Fowey Cornwall”
One thing that we are never without on our travels is our camera. We invested in a ‘big camera’ when the children were born, to help us capture memories of them growing up. It wasn’t cheap but it was worth every penny. Continue reading “How to Transform your Travel Photos into Keepsakes”
Last year I made a vow to myself that I would visit at least one new country every year. Continue reading “Why you Should go on an Evening River Cruise in Budapest”
We thought we’d do a bit of an update of how we are getting on with the new boat. We bought her in August and if you remember from our past post she was basically just a shell.
I have a confession to make most years I am rubbish at sending Christmas cards, some years I think I’m on top of it, I buy and write the cards, get them all ready and then forget to post them in time. Other years I have just forgotten altogether. This year however I’m determined to do it! Continue reading “How to Create the Perfect Personalised Christmas Cards”
Wild swimming is a fairly new term to me, when we were growing up we just used to call it swimming in the river however I must admit the term ‘wild swimming’ sounds so much cooler! Continue reading “10 Breathtaking Wild Swimming Locations in Devon”
We’ve been a little quiet on here recently but with good reason, we’ve sold our boat Oblivion! The main reason for selling her was Phil wanted something smaller that required less maintenance as we have put our house on the market and didn’t want to have to worry about a boat as well. Continue reading “Goodbye Oblivion & Hello Colvic Northerner Restoration Project”
Polruan is an ancient fishing village in South East Cornwall, looking over the Fowey river estuary. The whole village is on a steep hill, it has two pubs and one village shop. There is also a shop called the Winkle Picker down on the quay which doubles up as the post office. There is only one main road that goes through the village from the top down to the quay. During the 19th century Polruan was a major shipbuilding port. Continue reading “Polruan in Cornwall”
